Design Library: the natural home by hans blomquist

I was looking through some books over the weekend and realized that I needed to share one with you!  I picked up The Natural Home in a shop here locally one day and fell in love.  Of course the imagery is beautiful but it was the variety that really pulled me in.  There is a little something for most every taste and the mix of vintage is fantastic.   My favorite space that they explore and talk about is from Oliver Gustav.  His shop and is amazing.

Many of the images from this book have made their rounds on the web but I love to have a book to browse through at my leisure, I have more than enough according to my husband, but you can never under estimate the power of really turning those pages and the way your mind can wander.

Huniford Design

Huniford Design does the mix so well.  His ability to mix the clean lines of modern pieces with classic and vintage is amazing.  A style that is simple and sophisticated is refreshing in the design world of late.

I love the chairs in the first photo!

The Business of Design book signing

Last night I was lucky enough to attend a wonderful book signing for Keith Granet at Molly Wood Garden Design.  Molly is the sweetest and we seem to see one another EVERYWHERE!  Her shop and offices are in a little house and are so well done- I love it there and always seem to find something special to come home with not to mention she is a fantastic Landscape Designer.  I am dying over this vase in the first picture..  must need to go on my Christmas list!

I grabbed a copy of his book a little while back and have only had a chance to read a little bit of it.  It was fantastic to hear him speak about design as a business and our industry in general.  I definitely need to read it cover to cover because he made so pretty great points about the value of hiring a designer and how we should be letting our clients know this.

Molly and Keith

I think Keith's book is a must have for anyone who is just starting in design or has been working in the field.  It is full of great information about Design as a business and why we should treat it as such.

(soo sorry about the picture quality.. just a little point and shoot)

Atelier...

For the past few months I have been considering seriously moving into a little studio space to spread out a little bit.  I would love to have a studio or shop in the front with an office and then a design space in the back for work.  Things around here are very busy and I have not had the time to really think this through.  I am curious to know if you have an office, shop or studio that you rent/own?  If you do how do you like it?  Would you recommend it?  I can use all the input that I can get!

I love this space with the industrial furnishings and the warm feeling of the flooring texture what a great and inspiring workspace.

Shopping on La Cienega: Lee Stanton Antiques

This pair of vintage leather chairs made my heart race- they were so fantastic- definitely on my wish list for this lifetime!

Lee's displays were so clean and balanced, making it easy to see everything that I wanted!

Lee has his own upholstery line that is just as great as any vintage piece he had in the shop.

While visiting La Cienega I was lucky enough to stop by Lee Stanton Antiques, I was completely in love with his shop!  I had the pleasure of meeting Lee while I was there and we chatted about antiques and shopping in Europe.  He is so nice and his taste is impeccable!  The shop is filled with beautiful pieces that are displayed as you would in your own home, sleek and sophisticated.

If you are in LA La Cienega is a must see and you have to stop in Lee's shop to see what is new, or old for that matter.  Don't forget to say hello to his sweet little pup while you are there too!

Shopping on La Cienega: Kristen Buckingham

The Entry door was my favorite inside and out.

Loved the pocket doors in black also- just a nice little surprise.

On my last visit to La Cienega I had the pleasure of visiting  the Kristen Buckingham showroom.  It was full of eye candy!  The exterior paint was my favorite and reminded me of being in Paris where each shop seems to have it's very own style.

Inside was like a treasure chest of mixed styles and colors!
